Better Bone Program

We need the right fuel at all times, according to Susan Brown, PhD, CNS, director of the Osteoporosis Education Project
Step 1: Maximize Nutrient Intake. Bones need extra fuel when making repairs.

* According to Better Bone Program repairing broken bones may require you to get at least 20 grams of protein to increase your general sense of well-being and aid the healing processes.

*Calcium, of course, is a must. Most experts recommend between 1000 to 1200 mgs a day for a healthy adult—maybe up to 1500 mgs during the healing period. You can also eat calcium-containing foods such as green leafy vegetables, nuts, molasses, salmon, sardines with the bones, broccoli and unsweetened cultured yogurt.

* Vitamin D is an important ingredient in maximizing calcium absorption.

* Magnesium is especially critical for mending bone injuries. It's critical to proper calcium metabolism and bone formation, and some experts consider magnesium as important as calcium. Some experts prescribe 400 mg to 600 mg daily. Your physician will probably prescribe magnesium in conjunction with calcium.

* Other important nutrients are potassium, phosphorous, zinc and boron (called the bone-knitter). These first 7 nutrients (Calcium, Vit D, Magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, zinc and boron) are found in our Coral Calcium product.

* Your body continues to need vitamins A, C, Folic Acid, B-6, B-12 and a number of micronutrients and trace minerals such as copper, manganese and silica. A good high-potency multivitamin/mineral like Primalux, VitaOne or Vita-Che would be essential to get these nutrients. Some experts recommend soy foods (Vitamark has SuperSoy) as beneficial to bone health. Also, essential fatty acids found in walnuts, almonds, flaxseeds and fish(or EPAs and DHAs like are found in Omega III) are helpful.

Step 2: Take Less Anti-Nutrients

This step talks about how excess meat protein (keep to 50-60 g), caffeine (avoid amts in excess of 300 mgs), sugar, salt (keep below 2000 mg), tobacco, fat( consume less than 50 g), alcohol, carbonated beverages and “junk foods” deplete the bones of valuable nutrients.

Step 3: Build Digestive Strength

They emphasize “that strong digestion is the hub of good health.” In their steps for dealing with gas and bloating and other indicators of poor digestion, they point out the possibility of needing digestive enzymes (like Super Vi-Gest), proper eating and drinking habits and certain eating awareness techniques to accomplish complete digestion.

We also know how important the proper bacterial (like those found in Probiotics) environment is to the gut for digestive purposes and to enhance the immunological response necessary for the body to efficiently repair itself.

Step 4: Develop an Alkaline Diet

In addition to the nutrients an alkaline environment for the body is also important according to Better Bones Program which dedicates an entire section to its site which is called “Alkaline for Life”. It points out that the body’s internal environment works best at a slightly alkaline pH of just above 7.

It goes on to state: “Our enzymatic, immunologic, and repair mechanisms all work better in an alkaline environment.” Calcium is a major alkalizing mineral which makes it even more important to the bone healing process.

Step 5: Exercise to Bone Health ... emphasizes how appropriate the “use it or lose it” principal is to bone health.

Step 6: Promote Endocrine Health emphasizes the health of the endocrine system is impacted greatly by stress (the ingredients in Limu Plus help relieve stress).

Step 7: Enhance Immunity emphasizes how a healthy immune system is essential to bone health (several products that address immunity: VitaMune, Tramane, Limu Plus and Cold & Flu Relief).

Steps 8 and 9 are self-explanatory and are entitled “Use Osteoporosis Medications as Necessary” and “Test the Success of your Bone-Strengthening Program” respectively

Calcium - Building strong bones

It is important to understand that your body needs calcium to build strong bones. However it is not an intake of calcium alone but the right combination of additional vita, minerals and enzymes. Once you feed your bones nutrients that your body can use you have a better change of bone health.

As we age bone health becomes a major concern. Osteoporosis affects 55% of folks 55 years of age and older. Osteoporosis is called a “silent disease” because your bone loss occurs without symptoms.

What are the powerful bone-building ingredients your body needs to form bone structure?

We all know that calcium is basic building block of bones. Calcium has become a hot topic for nutritionists who are promoting good health. As a matter of fact food producers have responded by fortifying calcium in numerous products.

Calcium makes up 1.6 % of the human body weight. It is the most abundant metallic element in the human body. Scientists have begun to unravel the mysteries of the importance of calcium. They have found that the drop of calcium in the body is involved with aging and a host of degenerative illness such as osteoporosis, allergy, gallstones, cancer, and heart disease.

Calcium is one of the hardest minerals for the body to absorb. Adding certain vitamins, minerals and enzymes can help absorb calcium. Vitamins such as Vitamin D and minerals such as Boron, Magnesium and Strontium all aids in the process of absorption.

Boron is also responsible for maintaining normal levels of estrogen and testosterone in the blood. Dried fruits, nuts, dark green leafy vegetables and beans are good sources of boron.

Moving Magnesium

Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral found in the body. Magnesium is responsible for over 300 biochemical reactions in your body. It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function and keeps your bones strong. Magnesium regulates calcium transportation and promotes the entrance of calcium into the bone. Green vegetables are a good source of magnesium and so are legumes, nuts, seeds and whole unrefined grains.

Bone–building power of Strontium

Strontium is found in most foods we eat. Unfortunately there is not enough strontium in our food to have a significant effect on osteoporosis.

By the way, the type of strontium I am talking about is not the radioactive type. That would be strontium 90.

The strontium I am referring to is a mineral that helps strengthen bones and helps draw extra calcium into the bone. Strontium stimulates bone-building osteoblast (new bone formation) activity. This increased bone density.

Visiting distant cultures

In some cultures, degenerative diseases virtually do not exist. One common denominator in these cultures is that all of their water is loaded with mineral nutrients from melting glaciers high in the mountains. For instance, one quart of Hunza water contains 17,000 mg of calcium and they drink several quarts each day!

There is good news

Not only by supplementing calcium into your diet, you can dramatically improve the quality of life, but it can also result in a dramatic drop of medical treatment. Bone is a dynamic tissue which is always changing. Your body is able to add new bone density and grow strong as long as you give your bones the nutrients it needs.
